Photography FAQ

What is MIS’ primary style? traditional or photojournalistic?

Of our staff of photographers, we have individuals that specialize in traditional photography or photojournalism. However, the majority of our photographers specialize in blending both styles together to give you a broader selection of pictures to choose from after the wedding. As part of the initial consultation, we will help determine which best suits your needs.

  • Does the photographer shoot in color, black and white, or both?

All of our photographers shoot the original picture set in color and then any images you select can be flawlessly converted to black and white or sepia for no additional charge. We also offer a full range of custom digital art options such as retouching, color select, and other image manipulation services. You can even see what the conversion from color to black and white looks like online before you order!

How independent is the photographer? Does she prefer that you describe exactly what you want, or would she rather have free rein to capture the festivities on film?

We encourage your feedback at all points in the process, from the initial consultation to the wedding day shoot. Simply, we will adapt to your style and creativity. This means, if you have a clear idea as to what pictures you want we will accommodate your requests, and if you just want to let us handle all creative aspects it would be our pleasure.

Will we know who our actual photographer who will be?

Of course! And you will even know before you decide to retain our services. You are welcome to speak with your photographer anytime before the wedding if you have questions or concerns.

Has the photographer shot many weddings?

Yes. The average wedding experience level of our staff is 5 years. Our application process is very stringent, typically requiring a 4 year degree in photography or the equivalent, and 5 to 10 years of general photography experience. Each photographer must then complete our training course and complete the review cycle with our director of photography. Only then is your photographer ready to shoot a solo wedding.

How many weddings will the photographer shoot on your wedding day?

Only one . . . yours. As we provide complete coverage of your wedding day, photographers are never split between events on a wedding day.

  • Is the photographer open to a list of must-take photos (pictures you definitely want shot)?

Yes. While it is not necessary to outline standard pictures such as 'bride and groom at the alter' we do encourage specifying specific combinations of people that would be considered outside the norm such as 'great aunt with the bride,' etc.

How does your studio determine pricing?

Sadly, most studios have extremely complicated pricing structures and hidden charges. At Modern Image Studios we have gone to great lengths to create straight-forward pricing that is all-inclusive. Complete pricing is available upon request, and we will review the entire pricing structure during the initial consultation.

What kinds of cameras does the photographer use?

Our photographers use primarily digital SLR camera bodies and a wide variety of professional lenses. We require all digital photographers to shoot in at least 8 mega pixels (MP) format ensuring the highest resolution format for up to 30 by 40 inch prints.

What kind of lighting and other equipment (such as tripods) does the photographer use?

Each photographer will supply a portable portrait studio at the reception complete with professional hood lamps and a backdrop to ensure the highest quality formal pictures for your friends and family. In addition, each photographer will supply professional tripods and remote triggered lightings for low light images throughout the day.

Does the photographer bring backup equipment in case of emergency?

Of course, all photographers carry back up camera bodies, batteries, flash units, hood lamps, cables, tripods and accessories. Additionally, we leave two photographers available each weekend as emergency backups. These reserve photographers can provide equipment for your selected photographer and step-in at a moment's notice if needed.

Can we see our specific photographer's past work?
Absolutely! We insist. As part of your initial consultation, we will review a variety of work from past weddings of your specific photographer. This review and approval is an integral part of your decision to retain our services and is perhaps the most important decision you can make when deciding which studio you decide to retain for your special day.
